Detailing starts
from a model.
The first week of a detailing job is usually typing: grids, columns, beams, one by one into the model. Drawing to Model reads the framing plan, shows you what it read laid over the drawing, and once a detailer approves it, places the steel in SDS/2. 1,673 members in 205 seconds on one job.
- Uploadthe framing plan, as the engineer issued it
- Readgrids, levels, columns, beams, braces, sizes, elevations
- Overlaywhat it read, drawn over the plan, member by member, with every doubt flagged
- Approvea detailer walks the overlay and approves it, or corrects it first
- Placethe office PC places the approved members in the SDS/2 job
- Receiptevery placed member carries where it came from: the sheet, the grid, the line
Plan in,
steel out
Nothing is built until a person has looked at the overlay. That rule does not bend for a deadline.
Read
The plan is read: the grid, the levels, every member with its size and its ends. Anything it is not sure of is flagged, not guessed.
Overlay
What it read is drawn over the plan in colour. A member it is unsure of is marked for a look. A member it could not read is listed, not guessed.
Approve
A detailer walks the overlay against the plan, corrects what needs it, and approves. Their name goes on the approval.
Place
The approved members are placed in SDS/2 by the office PC. Each carries a receipt: which sheet, which grid, which line it came from.
What a person
still does
The model it places is a start, not a finished job.
- 01Approves the overlay.Nothing is placed in the model without a detailer's approval of what was read.
- 02Connects and details.Members are placed with size, position and ends. Connections, copes and the sheets are the detailer's work, as before.
- 03Not yet.It places framing: columns, beams, braces. Stairs, handrail and miscellaneous steel are modelled by the detailer.
